We are wired to search for meaning and happiness, but if that search has no direction or practice, we can find ourselves moving towards self-destructive and, or violent paths.
We are offered many lessons in life, yet too easily we miss them because of the break-neck speed at which we live. To compound the matter our brains, seem prone to spending copious amounts of time either preparing for imagined future events or ruminating on past ones. In our darker moments this can leave us feeling like we live in a world full of problems – life can feel like it has become rigid and cramped.
I believe that cultivating an attentive, contemplative rhythm can completely change our perspective and approach to life. Creating a practice or ‘discipline’ of regularly taking time to reflect on what is happening allows space for life lessons to be noticed and absorbed, therefore bringing us greater clarity in the pursuit of meaning and happiness.
How do we cultivate attentiveness? Attentiveness to what? Is there more to it than that? What is a healthy focus? Where do we even begin?
These are good practical questions as we begin to consider the exploration of our soul, our inner landscape.
I’d like to use this blog to reflect on my own experiences, thoughts, and ideas. Through my sharing you might be encouraged in your own journey towards greater meaning and happiness – living life in the wide-open planes.
